Sited near the school Library we deliver a comprehensive Careers programme to build up a student’s awareness of the wide range of opportunities open to them both in their future education and eventual employment. Strong focus is placed on developing their understanding of their interests, skills and qualities and the importance of developing these both in school and outside school in achieving their ambitions for the future.
Students consider their Skills, Qualities and Interests as they explore and prepare for 2 weeks work experience. Further emphasis is laid on the value of undertaking extra-curricular activities at school and at home to build transferable skills.
Work Experience – Students are encouraged to research, find and secure their own 2-week placements for the end of Summer term.
Employability Skills – We focus on CV and Cover Letter writing.
Opportunities List – Main School – A weekly listing of ideas and opportunities for Enrichment & Career exploration.
Careers Fair – as well as having access to the Year 9 Options Careers Fair (over 50 invited companies and organisations), students are notified and taken to other external careers fairs on offer.
Now that all students now have to remain in education or training-based work until the age of 18, we explore and consolidate the range of Qualification Pathways open to them.
1:1 Interviews – with our Independent Careers Advisers in preparation for Post-16 decisions. The Information, Advice or Guidance is given independently and impartially. The focus is on the choices of Level 3 qualifications in conjunction with predicted grades and comparison is made between Academic (A-levels), Vocational (NVQs/BTECs) as well as Work Related Learning (Apprenticeships) qualifications and their suitability to the student’s learning style.
Y11 Careers Questionnaire – Students complete this with the Careers Adviser and agree an ACTION PLAN.
Employability skills – We focus on INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES and PRESENTATION.
Opportunities List – A weekly listing of ideas and opportunities for Enrichment & Career exploration
Careers Fairs – as well as having access to the Year 9 Options Careers Fair (over 50 invited companies and organisations), students are notified and taken to other external careers fairs on offer.
