About St Marylebone CE School:

“This school is an exceptional place, where students flourish both academically and personally within a strong spiritual ethos” OFSTED, April 2014.

Founded in 1791, The St Marylebone CE School is an outstanding comprehensive school for girls with a mixed sixth form, serving students of all faiths or no faith. The School is a dynamic and inspiring place to work and invests energetically in the growth of its staff.

We were delighted to be one of the first 100 Teaching Schools designated in September 2011 and the first in central London. The designation acknowledged our long standing commitment to professional development and outreach work.

School Direct Training Programme (Salaried)

School Direct is an employment-based route into teaching for high-quality graduates with, generally, three or more years’ career experience. The trainee is employed as an unqualified teacher by the School, earning a salary at the same time as completing teacher training. The programme offers the chance to be part of a teaching team from day one by combining teacher training with on the job learning. You’ll be based at The St Marylebone CE School and earn a salary of up to £25,000 during your training – we recruit a trainee with the view to employing them once qualified. The cost of you training to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is covered by the School.

The course will start at the beginning of the next academic year.

In order to apply for a place on School Direct, you must have:

  • A UK undergraduate degree or a recognised equivalent qualification which is a 2:2 or above

School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)

School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) courses provide practical, hands-on teacher training delivered by experienced, practising teachers. All SCITT courses generally last a year and result in QTS. Unlike the School Direct Salaried route, the trainee is not employed as an unqualified teacher by the School. The course fee for training to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is £9,000. However, bursaries are available from between £4,000 and £25,000 according to subject and class of degree.

The course will start at the beginning of the next academic year.
