In the summer holiday the Dance Department organised an exciting event at Somerset House. A number of students who are either currently studying GCSE or A Level Dance, or used to study Dance at St Marylebone, met up near the fountains in the courtyard on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There we had the pleasure of watching the amazing dance piece ‘Counterpoint’ choreographed by Shobana Jeyasingh.
After the performance the students got to meet the choreographer and find out a bit about the challenges of performing in and around 55 fountains in Central London!
“It was really helpful to see this choreography live after having studied it on video. The piece became so much more immersive.”
Alex B, Year 13 student
“A big thank you for coming to see Counterpoint in August. It really meant a lot to us all to meet you and see that dance is still a big part of some of your students’ lives.”
Alice O, Head of Creative Learning, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance
All our current A Level Dance students are now working on a project with the Rehearsal Director from Shobana Jeyasingh Dance, creating a piece inspired by the choreographer’s collaborative approach.
