The St Marylebone CE School

An Opportunity to Excel

In-Year Admissions

In-Year Admissions Policy – to be read in conjunction with Year 7 Admissions Policy for Entry into Year 7 in September 2022

How to apply

The St Marylebone CE School is highly oversubscribed and places only become available if an existing student leaves. The School receives several applications per week for places. We do not operate a ranked order waiting list but we do keep information on file of those looking for a place at the school.

There is an online application process. Applicants should complete an application through the following link: In-year application form. You must also send us a copy of your child’s most recent school report. Until you have done this, your application is not complete.

We are not academically selective. The report will be used to place your daughter in one of four ability bands (A, B, C, D). We have the same number of students across all bands, ensuring a comprehensive intake.  The band is only for the purposes of admissions. It does not affect the curriculum the child will access or which classes your child will be in.

Types of places

We welcome students of Christian faith, all other world faiths and those with no faith.

If you are a Church of England applicant applying for a Church place, please download and complete the clergy form.

Applicants from other faiths and those with no faith are classed as Open applicants.

Waiting pool

Once your child’s school report is received, her details will be added to our waiting pool and she will be given further consideration should a suitable place become available. This will be according to which year, band and category (Open or Church) your child is in.

We are unable to give waiting list positions, nor are we able to give any advice on the likelihood of your child being offered a place. Unfortunately, the majority of in-year applicants remain in the waiting pool without ever gaining a place. If your child is without a school, you must speak to your Local Authority, who will help to ensure that your child finds a school place.

Please note that the waiting pool only lasts for the duration of the current academic year. Your application will not be carried over to the next year automatically. You will need to re-apply in the same way once again.

The School does not take pupils into Year 11 as this year is usually full and because the GCSE course is a two-year course.  It would not serve the student well to change schools partway through GCSE and we would not be able to cater effectively for the needs of a student entering the School at this point.  However, if appropriate to the individual case, we do consider taking pupils of Year 11 age into Year 10 to cover the two-year GCSE course, when there are places available.
