Teacher Versus Student Debate
Last Friday an intrepid team of student debaters (Jess, Ava, Leyya and Marlena) took on the formidable teacher team made up of Mr Hourigan-Rae, Ms Coutts and Ms Cattell. They debate the motion ‘This house would free the slaves from Santa’s workshop.’ It was a heated debate, which covered elvish rights, workers rights, the state of the global economy if Santa’s workshop were to close as well as the concept of whether an elf/person can be created for a specific purpose. On this occasion the student proposition team won. Congratulations to the student team. We will meet again next term for the next teacher versus student debate! A big thank you to Marlena who chaired the debate and Jasmine who was the time keeper!
After the Christmas holidays Jess, Ava and Leyya will be taking on the second round of the English Speaking Union Competition, and we will have the first Round of both the Oxford and Cambridge University Schools debating competitions. It will be a busy term of debating joy!
