Earlier this year the Food Tech department was fortunate to receive a grant from the Savoy Educational Trust that enabled us to purchase some key pieces of equipment now being used within the Food and Nutrition KS3 & KS4 curriculum. The ice-cream making machine has caused much excitement among Year 11 especially, the blast-chiller has enabled students to rapidly chill pastry and safely chill hot food and the urban cultivator (a hydroponic indoor growing machine) is making an important contribution to the department’s “Growing Green” project: our mission to become even more sustainable. We currently have spicy radish leaves, wheatgrass, pea shoots and basil which have germinated and are all making good progress. A big thank you to the Savoy Educational Trust for supporting the department and the development of opportunities for our students.
