Minimising our impact on the planet is something we feel very strongly about at St Marylebone School. By improving sustainability across all areas of the School, we aim to protect the planet for our students and future generations.
Last year we successfully applied for a grant from Westminster City Council (WCC) Carbon Offset Fund to carry out an energy assessment at the School. The report produced identified a number of opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint. A further grant was applied for to replace all lights in the School, both at the High Street site as well as Blandford Street, with LED lights. LED lights use a lot less energy, which results in significant carbon savings as well as energy savings.
The School has just received confirmation that our grant application, for £255,000, has been approved by WCC. This project is estimated to save 16.6 tonnes of carbon per year, each year, for the next 30 years. In addition, the energy savings will reduce the School’s energy bills by approximately £25,000 per year.
Going forward St Marylebone commits to:
- Develop a formal Sustainability Strategy incorporating a whole school approach.
- Inspire our students to engage and empower them to take leadership.
- Sign up to the Westminster City Council Sustainable City Charter.
