On Wednesday the 9th November we held out very own Year 7 International Evening. We raised £147.62 for https://www.youngroots.org.uk/ a London-based charity working to support young refugees through services and activities developed for and with young people. It was a wonderful evening full of performances which showcased the talent of our Marylebone community.
Zohal – Year 8
My name is Zohal and I’m in Year 8. I had the pleasure of helping with the first International Evening in years. It was fun as we got to see a bunch of talented students show their talents but we also got to be part of this, even as helpers. We had such a variety of acts: singing, dancing, and even a whole class poem! It’s no wonder to anyone that Marylebone has such amazing students but the International Evening really shook all the parents and attendees. So many students also came to show their support for those performing. We had 4 amazing hosts who led the night with elegance and grace. Despite the technical difficulties at the end, the Year 7 took matters into their own hands and sang the song “We are Family” without the backing track. It was certainly a memorable night and well done to all the performers, helpers, teachers and parents for attending.
Lian – Year 7
International Evening was incredible especially seeing loads of brave year 7s perform. It was also fun to see everyone’s culture and how much everything meant to them! At the start we were placed in a room to get ready. After they opened the drama office, they took us directly to the stage where we performed proudly.
That night was the best yet we performed and at the end we sang ‘We are family’. Seeing the smiles of not only parents/carers and our teachers made us feel so proud.
I would also like to say a big thank you to the teachers that helped get everything together and organised it. It means a lot to me that they went out of their Wednesday evening to prepare everything for us. And also thank you to the helpers from other year groups who gave us such great confidence in going out to perform!
Lyonna – Year 7
The international day was exceptional and helped raise a lot of money. Each act showed their culture with pride and the presenters were brilliant. Students of Year 7 helped show the diversity we have in the St Marylebone community. The evening was filled with poems from English and French classes, cultural dances, and beautiful songs representing their country and where they are from. Summing up the whole evening they ended with a Sister Sledge song ‘ We are Family’ showing even though we can be from anywhere we are always supporting one another whoever we are.
