Over the past two days 12 intrepid students have been taking part in the Mulberry Global Classrooms Model United Nations Conference. The theme of the conference was water and sanitation. Students were split into committees each researching and debating their own complex issues around this theme. Students were debating how to ensure reliable water supplies in the middle of conflicts, how to provide women’s sanitary products where the refugee population from these conflicts may be constantly changing and moving to avoid the war.
Leyya and Mekdu were debating in the Security Council regarding the future of the Ethiopian Dam, a topic which has caused much unrest in the region. All committees debated well and were able to write resolution papers, and produce at least one resolution that all countries were able to ratify.
Well done to Asma for winning an honourable mention for her excellent debating skills and to Marlena for winning best position paper. Well done to all our MUN-ers who debated so well and demonstrated what the leadership of tomorrow should look like through diplomacy and peacemaking.
Well done, Evie, Emi, Leyya, Mekdu, Asma, Katerina, Isabel, Cici, Marlena, Ruby, Liz and Helene!
