Over the past few weeks, a group of year 9 students have been taking part in workshops run by RIBA and MAKE (organized by Piers Jackson). They were investigating planning and design for work spaces and learning about architecture. They currently feature on the RIBA website here.

In the last couple of weeks, I participated in a workshop where I learnt how to design an office space. Overall I attended 3 workshops and in the last workshop, we presented our design. The design brief included selecting a profession from a list that featured athletes, musicians, artists, police and medics. We researched the different elements that these different professions required in their working spaces and designed a working space for them that would enhance wellbeing and productivity. We were working with professional architects who gave us feedback on our presentations and taught us how to design an ideal workspace, including an outside breakout space, an inside breakout space, a meeting room, and the main workspace. In the last workshop, we showcased our designs through plan, section and elevation drawings that we learnt how to do in the 2nd workshop.
I found the workshops really inspiring. I really enjoyed working in a group because we all shared our ideas and we worked really well together as a team.
