The English department are delighted to announce that Connie 11A will be this years St. Marylebone Poet Laureate. Huge congratulations to Connie. We hope you enjoy reading her wonderful poem celebrating our school community as much as we did. Thank you and congratulations to everyone who applied this year. The quality of poems was fantastic and encourage all to carry on writing poetry and perhaps apply again next year.
The Community
On that first day of Big School
I’d been trained to face carnage .
So imagine my surprise
When I trekked through green varnish
To find that such a busy world
Of agendas , to-remembers and nameless girls
Was actually … actually.
Wow. What was it actually ?
It was something to see
Awkward ‘hi’s and hesitant ‘bye’s
Turned to humans with names and such intricate lives
Some days we nearly thrive , others,
Well, we laugh to survive
Yes. Our fears and our goals start to intertwine
Yes. We all start to strive for
More than a ‘eh, that went fine.’
Shifting , creaking on church pews,
Food drives , a news flash , a new club, a bus dash,
A fresh face, an old routine ,
It chases in gold and black and green .
So forgive me for my early misgiving
Because humans come and leave
But
The school stays on living .
