On the last Thursday before half term, another annual teacher-student showdown took place. This time, Ava, Jess, Leyya and Marlena from the KS4 debate team came up against a formidable teacher team. The motion was ‘this house believes teachers should follow all the same rules as students’ with the students taking the role of proposition. The historic debate involved all four teachers wearing capes and the Year Nine’s sporting bunny ears and bat wings. It was very heated and the (quite large!) crowd helped to ramp up the excitement. The debate was kicked off by an amazing speech from Ava T in Year Nine, followed by another great speech from Mr V. To Mr V’s disappointment though, things were not going his way. At the end of each team’s first three speeches, the audience took to the floor to ask questions. They had some awesome ones, and sadly for the teachers, they were mainly targeted towards the opposition. Finally, Marlena in Year Eleven and Miss Coutts closed off the debate with fantastic closing speeches and the votes were to be counted. Much to Mr V’s dismay, the students won with a sweeping victory, 100% of the votes towards the proposition. Nonetheless, everybody was excellent and all the debates were very well thought out and delivered. We hope everybody debating and watching had an amazing time and we hope to see some of you in the debating club this term!
