We are proud to announce that Elise in 11A has won a commendation prize for the school for KS4 Spanish in the The Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators. The compeition is an initiative of the Queen’s College Translation Exchange. Over 15,000 students took part in the competition task, and schools submitted the top five entries for each level. A team of 36 judges then assessed 3,500 entries to the competition. Across the six strands of the competition running this year, the judges selected 24 UK-wide winners, 20 UK-wide runners-up, 189 area winners and 215 commended entries.
Below are some words from Elise on why she entered the competition.
“I entered the competition because I’ve always loved languages, especially Spanish. I had never heard of such competitions before and it intrigued me. I liked having the freedom of choosing certain words that would make for a better translation as well as recognising Spanish words I had previously learnt and discovering new ones. This enhanced my love for Spanish, motivating me to work harder in lessons and made me feel assured in my knowledge of the language.”
