Year 13 Geography students were in Blencathra (Lake District) last week to collect data for their Independent Investigation, this is students’ coursework which is worth 20% of A Level Geography. Students were introduced to a range of fieldwork techniques at the beginning of the week which they adapted to suit their individual coursework titles and then collected their own data in Easedale or Keswick at the end of the week. The Geography Department is incredibly proud of how Year 13 worked on the trip – their enthusiasm, diligence, good humour, team spirit and resilience (particularly in the wind and rain) was outstanding! If students approach their coursework write-up with the same energy and passion as they did last week, these are set to be outstanding pieces of work. Well done Year 13!
Here is a reflection from Eleanor, a Year 13 Geography Ambassador:
I really enjoyed the independent data collection in the Lake District. Myself and others got to carry out numerous fieldwork techniques including belt transects, decibel levels and interviews on the way and back from Easedale Tarn. The field centre instructor gave us valuable support and information, such as the interrupted disturbance theory and expertise on different plant species and I felt very accomplished by the end of the week.
Here are some photos of geographers doing what they do best, applying their learning in the field!
